The
Gallery showcases exceptional arts and crafts. There is a strong emphasis on
creative artisan jewelry as well as an impressive collection of Native American
jewelry. Graphics and crafts by international and local artists are featured.
Our jewelry is like a treasure chest - amber, jet, carnelian, peridot, amethyst,
garnet, tourmaline, opal, moonstone, aventurine, and jasper set in necklaces,
bracelets, and rings. Federico designs in beautiful turquoise and sterling silver
are also showcased.
The Gallery also features traditional craft arts including:
Raku pottery - the ancient Japanese pottery technique of quick firing and then
immersing into leaves, pine needles, or paper to give an iridescence; this also
forces the glaze to crack, allowing in smoke which gives the piece its famous
crackling web. No two pieces are ever alike.
Art glass - long the secret of Venetian artists, art glass popularity rocketed
in the 1800's and continues today. The Gallery carries select pieces from an
array of gifted glass artists.
Serigraphs - this time-honored graphic process requires the artist to intricately
carve his work onto a zinc plate, one plate for each color used in the picture.
Serigraphs by the renowned John August Swanson can require as many as 52 separate
plates to create one limited-edition print like those found in The Gallery. His
work is also on display at the Vatican, the Tate Museum in London, the Smithsonian
Museum, and the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris.
Fimo Clay by Jon Stuart Anderson. Amazing animals created from polymer clay
in the tradition of the ancient Millifiore method of glassmaking. Colored canes
of clay create an illustration roughly the size and shape of a loaf of bread.
The central design is repeatedly stretched and cut as other designs are added.
Further stretching to the size of a small coin finally reduces the composite
image. It is then cut and applied like mosaic tiles to the animal's form.
Jon Anderson is simply the most accomplished polymer artist in the world today.
An exceptional combination of artist, botanist, mathematician, zoologist, and
engineer; Jon has been refining his amazing sculptures for over a decade. He
continues to create new images by his own hands in his studio hidden deep in
the paradise of Bali, Indonesia.
The Gallery also features Native American Indian crafts from the Hopi, Navajo,
Zuni, and Santo Domingo tribes and include:
Zuni fetishes - each hand carved in a variety of stones including turquoise,
amber, malachite, jasper, and jet among others. The fetishes are used to teach
Zuni children tribal traditions and history.
Navajo belts - including sterling silver Concho belts, some using beautiful
turquoise, or other stones.
Jewelry - A vast selection representing many different artists including
necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, and cuffs featuring enamel, exotic bead
or semi-precious stone combinations. One of the really glorious collections of
Lunch at the Ritz - fun and fanciful jewelry - can be seen at the Bazaar del
Mundo Gallery - Lots of earrings, pins, and necklaces.
Other Craft collectibles - including pottery, leatherwork, hand painted
gourds, handmade dolls, and other periodic surprises grace this lovely shop.
